labor day

Our Aunt Kimberly took Labor day very literally this year. We are so grateful little Kolby Lynn arrived safetly. She is a chubbers with tons of hair and looks just like Kimberly. I sure hope they let me call her Kopal.

On Labor day the King family joined us for a morning of yard work at the home of Tony's 90 year old patient and friend. It was a lot more fun with another family. We shared a quick picnic (rained out) and then went hiking in the St Joe Forest, just our fam. It's my favorite family activity period. I love the way the big kids help the little kids and how everyone is on the same path, just at different paces. Everything fell apart as soon as we got home and spankings were dealt heartily , so at least we'd had a nice day together.

Spanish Preschool has resumed. I am lucky to have a friend like Betina who tolerates doing weekly preschool with me. I mostly like the structure and scheduled time it allows with the kids, and I always learn a few vocabulary words when I prepare the lessons. This week we invited the neighbors puppies for a lesson on perritos. Even I, an official non-dog person, am smitten with their cuteness. The boys have worked hard on us to adopt one, but thakfully Jill's voice echoes in my head, "dogs equal POOP!" and I return to reality.

It has been gorgeously hot this weekend. We slipped out to the lake Friday night and had a great time. Saturday I rode to the lake and even jumped in with my biking clothes on. The older I get the more precious summer seems. It makes me want to cry thinking another one has gone by.

Disease has arrived in St John. Tony has seen a ton of the flu in clinic and 25% of the students in school were out last Friday. We have avoided it for the most part except for Cooper who has a terrible cough. My antidote is to put pureed vegetables (thus more vitamins) in all of our food: beets in the pancakes, squash in the spaghetti, spinach in the smoothies etc. I would sure love to avoid the flu altogether.
