Pi Day

It was fun to have Audrey come and teach us how to make her famous apple pie.  She gave us a great gift of her time and we were so thankful.

Easter

spring break

Spring Break was deliciously unplanned and relaxed this year. Most kids voted to stay home, sleep in and watch a lot of movies. This was hard for me, but the kids sure seemed happy. Wilson and I spent 15 hours at a court required class that I referred to as anger management. No one in the class got less out of it than I did because my heart was hard and bitter. Wilson, in all his wisdom, suggested that I could make the time go faster if I became actively engaged and participatory. Great. Thanks for the tip.

Sunday we hosted Easter. We had 34 people and our feast of ham and lamb was delicious. I guess we have outgrow the Easter Bunny; he got very little attention and coloring eggs and the town Easter egg hunt were pretty much afterthoughts.
Monday morning we woke up to the most beautiful snow!  Unfortunately no one was excited about snow for spring break and it melted without any snowmen or sledding.

On Tuesday Cooper took the kids to dinner and a movie for a kids day out.

On Wednesday we met the cousins at the jumping center in Spokane. All the cousins loaded into two cars and we headed to Costco. We divided the twelve cousins into 3 teams. Each team was in charge of a meal: breakfast lunch or dinner, no budget and 15 minutes. Team breakfast quickly found Jimmy Dean Croissant sandwiches, Uncrustable peanut butter and grape jelly sandwiches on nasty white bread, and cinnamon toast crunch. Team Dinner found hamburgers, hotdogs and kungpao chicken. Team lunch found rotisserie chicken, beef sticks, Capri sun, a fermented fruit tray, and chocolate chip cookies. We were a circus and were great entertainment for all of the Costco patrons. We took our lunch to the park and had a wonderful picnic--sans plates silverware or napkins. Cooper and his friend Abby were good sports to help entertain all the cousins.

The rest of the time the little girls played dress up, pretended they were dogs and chased Reggie around. Marcos and Lane spent most of their time on skateboards and picking up horse chestnuts for a penny apiece. The big boys were in heaven with video games and Addy and Eliza spent their time beautifying-hair, nails, make-up. Addy's stomach could not handle the food free for all and she threw it up. The next morning I found her working on a whole cucumber. "Turns out," she said, "my body does need vegetables!"

I loved watching how the cousins look out for each other and don't need adults to entertain or discipline them. It was a ton of fun and everyone was exhausted by Thursday afternoon.

Friday we held the first annual Lundberg family spring break triathlon. We went to the wellness center at Plummer to bike, swim, and run/basketball. We rewarded the participants with Vietnamese food at our favorite restaurant in Spokane.

It was really nice to sandwich spring break between General Conference at the beginning and Stake Conference at the end. It was two weeks of spiritual feasting.

eliza is 13

I had a fun birthday.   I got MARYKAY makeup. Mom and I had a party .  I also had a party with friends.  We were going to do a photo picture scavenger hunt but,  the weather was bad. My friends came to the house and we did nails instead.  I had banana cream parfaits and noodles!  My favorite foods.  I also started my new dance class. It is tap and ballet on Friday nights.

March madness

We have had some important happenings in March. Most importantly, Eliza became an official teenager. She celebrated this monumentous event with a "makeup" day with Mom, and a party with friends. She also signed up for a tap and ballet dance class and is excited to improve balance and strength for basketball. Eliza also demonstrated her stubborn streak and refused to participate in a spring sport-no track, no baseball! She could not be budged with threats, shaming or bribes. Eliza had a weekend full of basketball at the March Madness tournament in St John where she played as a floater for the younger kids and the older kids. She loved every minute.

Max was invited to play on the junior high baseball team. It makes a long day for a 10 year old, because practices are in Endicott. It is also providing Max with a much needed incentive for his schoolwork. Maxwell had a difficult lesson about what happens when a Lundberg fails an open book test and throws in the towel. The lesson involved a crazy-eyed Mom at school, a wooden spoon, and a lot of push-ups.

Cooper James also declined a Spring sport and has been the after school assistant at home. I am getting spoiled having him around to run errands and watch kids. He also spends time golfing and shooting hoops at the gym. Cooper and Wilson participated in Honor Band as well as the High School band competition. Wilson learned that playing the piano as an accompanist is challenging and is easier if one reads music. Cooper wore his lips out playing tuba.

Tony has made the miraculous discovery of a Wellness center and racquetball court not far from his new clinic in Tekoa. He is hoping to involve our whole family in this new venue.  He has already planned out a family triathlon, utilizing the beautiful trail of the Coeur de Lane.

March is a thespian month for the Lundbergs. Max and Marcos were wonderful "townspeople" in the Missoula Children's theatre production of the Pied Piper.  A majority of the month for Kelly, Wilson and Cooper was spent rehearsing (and majorly stressing) over the high school musical "Princes Whatsername."

One fun night we spent at the YW camp fundraiser dessert auction. As soon as we saw Audrey's Apple pie and Daffy cake, our family unanimously knew what we were going to bid on. We also won a fabulous raspberry chocolate trifle, pink lemonade cupcakes and chocolate covered craisins. We were on a sugar high for the whole weekend.  Eliza is already looking forward to camp.
