girls camp

I went to girls camp and I meet 2 new friends from other wards!  My favorite part was Wednesday night when we got candles and all the girls formed a big circle and sang songs.   We didn'tt want to leave so we just sat on the grass because when we got tired of standing.   My other favorite part was when we did crafts like bracelets and jedi braides. In the morning one of the days we had to get up at 6:30 and get dunked in the cold water.   It was worth it because we got "Olof" beads.  We did a lot of singing and my favorite was "Mormon boy."
My favorite meal was when when we had hamburgers.  For first year, we had to go on a hike--there were a lot of people on the side of the road and we had to help them.  I tried to bear my testimony, but we ran out of time so I shared it with my ward in our cabin on the night that Dad came up as Bishop.  I am excited to go back next year!  Our sweatshirts are really cool too. It was awesome.

Annual Lughesworth Reunion

We showed up to our annual weekend at the Hainsworth lake cabin Thursday morning wounded and weary. We were embraced and healed by good friends, good food and glassy ski water. It was so sad not to have the Hughes this year as they were all scholastically involved at BYU. It was especially nice to have an opportunity to meet some of the Hainsworths other friends and feel that great connection that comes from united covenants.
We were totally impressed with Harris the Party Boat. It has transformed our opinions of tubing. Tony was a willing driver of the PB all weekend.
Because it was so close to Wilson's birthday, he was allowed to being a friend and not surprisingly, chose his girlfriend Stephanie. She was a pleasure to have along and jumped right into the fun. She even got up on the wake board her first time! She was a little surprised that no one started their day with a pot of coffee, but we solved the problem at a little cafe on the river. I was proud of Wilson for giving her a heads up that she might be the solo bikini wearer in the crowd. Stephanie asked Andrea if wearing a tank top over her suit would be all right. Andrea told her it was not necessary, but that she was so impressed with her respectful question. That night all the teenagers celebrated at Gooeys where Cooper ate an unbelievably large ice cream sundae. The kids even brought me back a creme brulee which I ate for breakfast!
On Thursday we took all the kids 12 and under into CouerdeLane , handed them some cash and let them get their own dinner at Hudsons famous burgers. It was really cute to see them all lined up at the counter. The adults had a beautiful night at Cedars restaurant where we had delicious food and good, healing, helpful conversation. One of the compensatory blessings Heavenly Father has offered us to deal with trials is a network of friends and family who offer counsel and unconditional love.
Friday night was also a beautiful memory. We were out on the boat surfing as the full moon came up against a beautiful sunset. The water was warm, everyone was happy, and life seemed about as good as it could get.
I loved that both mornings the adults started with a good ski. It made the rest of the day better.
Cooper became a master at the go-pro and we got some good video footage. Wilson will make a movie for us for sure.

Fourth of July

It was wonderful to resume our 4th of July camping tradition with Workmans this year. We met at our usual spot at Boyer park on Thursday, set up camp and started swimming and fishing. The weather was hot, but with a nice breeze. We all remembered the storm of 2012 when the wind blew my canoe down the river and snapped our tent poles. When the Dads got off work we BBQ steaks and potatoes. Later we enjoyed the most lovely evening including a perfect red, white and blue sunset at "crab claw beach." We ran on the dunes and enjoyed the warmer shallow water. We had a cozy smores by the campfire and Tony told his Famous Long John Silver stories. On Friday we attended the church breakfast then spent the rest of the day back at Boyer park. It was on this day that Tony offered his phone to the lake gods at the marina. It was a sad moment. The water was cold and choppy, but it didn't stop the kids from lot of good tubing. Under Oakley's influence, the kids also spent hours fishing and really enjoyed it. We packed up after dinner that night and headed to Endicott for fireworks. As usual, they were magnificent and Tony got to play football, koob and frisbee to his hearts content.

Hardest yet

While we were in New York on The Big Lundberg Family Adventure, Wilson wrote a vile and threatening text to a girl in our Stake. The text was in response to hurt feelings that have gone unresolved for a couple of years. The frightened girl reported the text to her parents and they called the police to request a restraining order.

Wilson had no idea that the his text would have such devastating consequences. He has had to appear in court twice, pay for an attorney, has the lost the use of the car, his phone and all media. He has been depressed for days and has wasted beautiful summer days trying to sleep away the pain. His choice has caused great grief for his parents and grandparents. His siblings have been frightened. He faces jail, fines, hours of community service, as well as a permanent record. His crime may impact his mission, military service, jobs and even his right to vote and bear arms.

We are so disappointed in Wilson. He knew better. He has been taught to keep the commandments which include loving others. He has never heard those vile words in our home. Nothing justifies his behavior and we are hurt.

We are also filled with the hope and gratitude that comes from a knowledge of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. We know that a Savior has been provided for this exact time. We know that if Wilson turns to the Savior with honesty and humility, owns his mistake and makes efforts toward restitution, the pain will be washed away. I have also been impressed with the knowledge that through the enabling power of the Atonement I can feel peace and pain simultaneously.

All my prayers right now are that Wilson will learn from this experience in a way that would stop him from making the same mistake again. I hope that he can feel the relief of forgiveness. I hope he sees the protection of keeping the commandments. This is what I have learned from him.
