There is no better way to celebrate a birthday than with an adventure! Our adventure to Mexico City was wonderful. We had great food, a perfect place to stay, lots to learn about history and art and beautiful rainy weather. Everyday we had mexican hot chocolate and pan dulces. Everyday we discovered good tacos or pozole. With the help of very kind people, we managed to figure out the metro system and our VRBO. We also got to experience a true Mexican protest with hundreds of people dropped off by buses at the central square. The valuable buildings were barricaded by metal walls and all the businesses were boarded up. One shopkeeper suggested that it was the government hiring thugs to make the protestors look bad. The only problem for us was that public transportation shut down and we had to walk home. Even that turned out to be great when we ran into a delicious panaderia and Mexican China town (with no Chinese). We spent a fascinating day exploring the pyramids of Teoticuhacan. I was most fascinated by the design that perfectly imitated the surrounding mountains. Tony couldn't believe the sheer size. We watched for symbolism of current temples. One of the highlights for me was a private art tour explaining the murals in the palacio de bellas artes. Another of our fun traditions is to always eat food in museums. I had the most amazing yogurt parfait of my life with fresh plums and Tony had a relleno without egg in red suace that he loved. I get so overwhelmed in big cities trying to understand how God knows each of us individually and how Jesus knows all the pain of the world. 60% of Mexico lives in poverty, so the pain and suffering is staggering. Tony and I are compatible travel buddies except when he walks too fast (Lundberg trait) and leaves me in the dust. It's so fun to learn and experience together. I hope not to sound ungrateful when I suggest that fun trips like this just make me excited for the next one.

Wild Wednesdays
Jonah and Lindsey
Last weekend we returned to our happy place, Diamond Lake to celebrate Jonah and Lindsey's wedding. It was whirlwind wonderful wedding and the Hainsworths outdid themselves. We loved being support staff-it feels so good to work hard with people we love. We arrived Thursday and hit the ground running. I was grateful to have a chance to meet Lindsey's mom Julie. She has raised 8 amazing children and experienced widowhood through suicide. She has the spiritual strength and peace that I admire so much in Betsy, and it was a gift to get to know their family. Lindsey and Jonah are a beautiful match.
Andrea. absolutely nailed the food. From the Thursday night family dinner to the lake day breakfast and dinner to the caterer and wedding cake, everything was perfect. Betsy's special gift is attention to detail, so she made a big difference at the ring ceremony when she insisted on hauling a divider to the fire pit to hide the messy audio equipment. Tony and Jeff saved the day by managing the sound system. I just soaked in the awesomeness of 25 years of friendship that synced Betsy Andrea and I into a seamless machine of efficiency and "get er done"ness. The temple ceremony was also a highlight. Jeff Elmer reviewed the covenants and promises succinctly and powerfully. I loved watching Jonah and Linsey run through the sparklers off the dock and into the ski boat-absolutely magical.
