Mom and Dad run away

Tony and I had the most wonderful get away this week. We flew to Medford Oregon on Wednesday and would have made a temple session, but our plane was delayed by a storm. Instead we had a spiritual fried asparagus experience at a delicious seafood restaurant. We were up early and headed into the Redwood Forest. Thankfully we had on our rain gear because it was a wet, but beautiful hike. We hiked to Fern Falls and also found Boy Scout tree, with another crazy hiking couple from San Diego. We were tired, sore and wet and happy. The trees were so beautiful it seemed unreal. It was awesome. In the true sense of the word.

After warming up with hot tea and fish and chips we headed to the beach. We We hiked up to a lovely lighthouse and watched for whales until the rain and wind drove us back. We ended up snuggled in our car for a nap and a good book while the storm raged. We drove to Gold Beach and slipped into the hot tub to warm our soaked and sore bones. After some tasty Mexican food (best sea food burrito ever!) Tony brought out his new card game. It was a peaceful night. The storm that night was epic and we slept to the sounds of the pounding surf and storm.

Friday we started with some yoga to stretch our sore muscles, a good breakfast, and headed to the beach. The Pacific Coast trail is an amazing hike that runs the entire coast of Oregon. We jumped on the trail and hiked along the cliffs with stunning ocean views the whole way. The sun even came out and the rain took a break! We headed back to Brookings and had sushi and Pho for lunch. Later we explored the tide pools of Harris Beach until hail drove us out. As we headed back to Medford we stopped for one more quick hike to Stout Grove where fallen Redwoods gave us a little better perspective of just how big the trees really were. Tony and I both remarked that hiking there made us feel like intruders. It was a peaceful and sacred feeling.

There were a few key reasons that this trip was so wonderful. The primary one was that we went to a place with no crowds. Maybe even more importantly, we weren't worried about things at home. Cooper was great about helping the kids, getting them to their activities and watching their games. He was also buying copious amounts of soda and sugar cereal and watching movies on school nights. It was fun to think of the kids at home breaking rules and having so much fun together.

Tony relished this break. He was more relaxed than I've seen him in a while. We truly enjoyed each other. I would rather be with Tony than anyone else. We had great intentions of getting a lot of planning done for the future, but in reality we just enjoyed each moment.

I had a special experience while hiking. I was thinking of Wilson and got a clear vision of a conversation between he and Cooper in the pre mortal life. Wilson was firmly offering to take the affliction of mental illness. He was insisting that he was stronger and wanted to do it so Cooper didn't have to. Coop was crying, hugged him and promised to help him as best he could. The vision was so clear and my emotions were so strong I couldn't see the trail.
